HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 c204W
19. Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the role of the armed forces of the Crown in support of the civil power in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Stanley

The armed forces in Northern Ireland continue to operate in support of the Royal Ulster Constabulary in order to overcome terrorism and restore normal policing throughout the Province. The professionalism and personal bravery shown by all elements of our security forces in Northern Ireland is of the highest order.
