HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 c199W
Mr. Norris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what further progress has been made in the operation of the national mobility scheme.

Sir George Young

The number of moves at the national level—between districts in different counties in England and Wales—has recently passed 10,000. As a member of the national mobility scheme's steering committee, I have today marked the 10,000th move by making a presentation in Oxford to a family who moved from Derwentside. Participating authorities are to be congratulated on their efforts so far in making a success of this voluntary scheme. I hope that all authorities will sustain and renew their efforts to help people with a pressing need to move for job or social reasons.
