§ Mr. Norrisasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what further progress has been made in the operation of the national mobility scheme.
§ Sir George YoungThe number of moves at the national level—between districts in different counties in England and Wales—has recently passed 10,000. As a member of the national mobility scheme's steering committee, I have today marked the 10,000th move by making a presentation in Oxford to a family who moved from Derwentside. Participating authorities are to be congratulated on their efforts so far in making a success of this voluntary scheme. I hope that all authorities will sustain and renew their efforts to help people with a pressing need to move for job or social reasons.
