HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 c214W
Mr. Maxton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list by subject all Her Majesty's inspectors of schools for Scotland, the number of years' experience of each and the immediate prior post held by each.

Mr. Allan Stewart

The experience and qualifications of the members of the inspectorate, the present strength of which is 112, cover all subjects in schools. Recruitment to the inspectorate is by open competition, and candidates are required to have a relevant honours degree or equivalent qualification. We are not prepared to give personal details of the members of the inspectorate, but I can say that the average teaching experience of the inspectors is 15 years.
