HC Deb 17 January 1984 vol 52 cc206-7W
Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will estimate the proportion of expenditure for which he is responsible that is spent on (a) administration, (b) payments to organisations and individuals and (c) provision of services.

Mr. Younger

The information is not available in the form requested. However, for the current year, I estimate that the public expenditure within the Scotland programme financed directly from the votes of my Departments will be spent in approximately the following proportions:

Percentage
Scottish Departments' Administration (including Scottish Office, Scottish Courts Administration, Scottish Record Office, General Register Office (Scotland) and Department of the Registers of Scotland) 4
Grants to individuals and other organisations (excluding local authorities) 26
Other (including direct provision of services) 70

This covers all expenditure classified as central Government expenditure in the public expenditure White Paper; most grants to local authorities are not classified as public expenditure.
