asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the latest figures for the percentage of National Health Service capital expenditure spent on teaching hospitals.

Mr. John Patten

In 1982–83 about 10 per cent. of health authority capital cash limits was spent on teaching hospitals. This figure includes the contribution provided centrally for major teaching schemes and the capital expenditure of the London postgraduate special health authorities and preserved boards of governors.
