HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 c109W
Dr. Owen

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the latest figures for the number of prescriptions per head dispensed annually in (a) Greater London, (b) the four Thames regions, excluding Greater London, and (c) the whole of England, excluding the four Thames regions.

Mr. John Patten

The information requested is as follows:

Area Number of prescriptions per head per annum
(a) Greater London 6.0
(b) The four Thames regions (excluding Greater London) 6.4
(c) The whole of England (excluding the four Thames regions) 7.1

These figures are for the period September 1982 to August 1983, the latest available. They compare prescriptions (excluding hospital prescriptions) dispensed during that period by chemist contractors and appliance contractors with the number of persons on GP prescribing lists as at August 1983.
