HC Deb 16 January 1984 vol 52 c100W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what are the precise uses which his Department specifies to the Fluoridation Society for the grant of £15,000; how this money was spent in the last financial year; and what scrutiny his Department makes into the ways in which the money is spent.

Mr. John Patten

An annual grant is made to the Fluoridation Society to assist in the promotion of a greater public awareness of the value of fluoridation as a means of preventing dental decay. Use of the grant is not further constrained and I have placed in the Library of the House copies of the Fluoridation Society's accounts setting out expenditure for the 1982–83 financial year. The society's annual accounts are subject to scrutiny by the Department before the level of grant is fixed for the following financial year.
