§ Mr. Kenneth ClarkeIn 1981–82 expenditure on family planning provided through the community health services and general medical practitioners is estimated to have been some £55 million. The estimated gross current health and personal social services expenditure per birth in 1981–82 was £995 on average. The Department does not routinely calculate discounted public sector costs of births.
