asked the Secretary of State of Northern Ireland (1) how much has been spent on mandatory awards for those in third level education in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years; and how many students have such awards in each of the last five years;

(2) how many people have applied for discretionary awards for third level education in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years, and of these, how many applications have been successful in each year;

(3) what has been the total expenditure on discretionary awards for third level education in Northern Ireland in each of the last five years.

Action is being taken to implement the recommendations of a working group on general practice prescribing aimed at promoting the more effective and economical use of drugs in the family practitioner services. In addition, hospital prescribing patterns and costs are kept under regular review and drug and therapeutic committees have been established in most hospital groups.
