Mr. Peter Bruinvels

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will provide figures showing the number of people stopped and breathalysed by police during the Christmas holiday period; and what was the number of people whose breath tests were proved positive by force area in Northern Ireland.

During the period 11 December 1983 to 1 January 1984 a total of 271 drivers were stopped and breathalysed by the Royal Ulster Constabulary. 112 of these tests proved positive.
