Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) whether there are plans for the location of cruise missiles on Mersey side; and if he will make a statement;

(2) whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to site cruise missiles at Burtonwood; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Stanley

The Government have no plans to base cruise missiles in the United Kingdom other than at RAF Greenham common and at RAF Molesworth.

Sir Antony Buck

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether ground launched cruise missiles based at RAF Greenham common are now operational.

Mr. Heseltine

The first ground launched cruise missiles at RAF Greenham common became operational at the end of 1983, in accordance with NATO's December 1979 decision.
