HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 c175W
33. Mr. Galley

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is satisfied with the rate at which microprocessors are being placed in schools; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butcher

Yes. The progress is good. The Department's micros in schools schemes have provided over 6,500 microcomputers to secondary schools, and as far as we can judge every secondary school now has at least one and the average is about four or five. Our primary school scheme runs to the end of this year and so far nearly 19,000 of the 27,000 schools eligible have applied. The scheme for secondary schools has been extended to include ancillary equipment and over 3,000 schools have applied.
