HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 cc230-1W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what guidance he gives local authorities

regarding the timing of the placing and removal of skid signs warning of a slippery road surface, other than ice on roads; and if such guidance includes advice to leave such signs in place until the road surface has been improved.

Mrs. Chalker

Guidance on this subject is given in paragraph 4.106 of chapter 4 of the Department's "Traffic Signs Manual", a copy of which is in the Library. The sign is intended for use where there is evidence that the danger of vehicles skidding is greater than normal. Where possible remedial works should be put in hand as soon as practicable and the signs removed on completion of the work.
