asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many applications for regional development grants, whether or not successful, have been received each month by his Department from each standard planning region since January 1983.

The number of applications for regional development grant received by the Department between 8 January 1983 and 3 February 1984 was 26,199. An analysis by region and by calendar month is not available, and its preparation would involve a disproportionate use of resources.
