HC Deb 29 February 1984 vol 55 cc238-9W
Mr. Murphy

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will indicate his proposed amendments to the Hertfordshire structure plan with regard to the green belt around Luton.

Mr. MacFarlane

As published on 23 February the Secretary of State proposes a modification to north Hertfordshire policy F regarding a green belt around Luton. My right hon. Friend proposes to delete the word "local" on both occasions where it appears and to amend the policy so that it readsIt is the Council's policy to maintain a green belt to the east of Luton. The precise boundaries of the green belt will be defined in the North Hertfordshire District Plan. As a general indication, the western boundary will generally follow the district boundary northwards from the edge of the Metropolitan Green Belt near Peter's Green to its northerly point beyond Hexton and its easterly boundary should run from the County boundary near Telegraph Hill in a south easterly direction on high ground to the east of Lilley Bottom as far as the vicinity of King's Walden and thence southwards to the existing green belt boundary near Blackmore End.
