development grant totalling £121,527,000 was paid to industry in Wales. Comparable figures for the other forms of grant and loan assistance for which the Department of Trade and Industry is responsible can only be provided at disproportionate cost.
§ Mr. Raffanasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if he will list the total amount of European 195W Economic Community aid to industry in Wales which was channelled through his Department during the last financial year;
(2) what has been the total amount of European Economic Community grants and loans to British industry in the last financial year.

§ Mr. Trippier[pursuant to his reply, 28 February 1984]: As shown in table 2.4 of Volume II of the Government's "Expenditure Plans 1984–85 to 1986–87" (Cmnd 9143–11), total expenditure by the Department of Trade and Industry in 1982–83 was 2,269 million of which direct assistance by grant and loan to industry amounted to about 1,100 million.
