Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will give the figures for the proportion of patients in hospital, at the latest convenient date, between the ages of (a) 0 to five years, (b) five to 10 years, (c) 10 to 20 years, (d) 20 to 30 years, (e) 30 to 40 years, (f) 40 to 50 years, (g) 50 to 60 years, (h) 60 to 70 years and (i) over 70 years, respectively.

[pursuant to his reply, 9 February 1984, c. 752]: The age distribution of patients on a given date is available for resident patients in mental illness and mental handicap hospitals and units although not for the exact age-groups requested. The age distribution of other hospital inpatients is available only as an estimate in terms of the average daily bed occupancy over a year.
