§ 32. Mr. Dormandasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proposals he has to improve the effectiveness of health education.
§ Mr. John PattenThe Health Education Council, which is funded by the Government and carries out health education programmes at national level, is always concerned to evaluate its activities to ensure that resources are used most effectively. The council is increasing liaison with the NHS locally, and the chairman and director general are holding discusions with regional and district health authority chairmen. Ministers also continue to emphasize to health authorities the importance of well planned health education services at local level, and three seminars have been organised by the Department since last March specifically for this purpose. More generally, we do of course keep continually under review the scope for constructive development in promoting good health.
