§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement as to the number of fatalities and head injuries to pedal cyclists in each of the last five years.
§ Mrs. ChalkerRoad accident reports submitted to my Department give no information as to the nature of injury sustained by casualties. Figures for fatalities front 1972 to 1982 are in table 5 of "Road Accidents Great Britain 1982", a copy of which is in the Library; provisional 1983 figure will be published on 5 April. The 1980 edition reports a study of 1972 data, which shows that three quarters of hospitalised pedal cyclists sustained head injuries.
