HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 c19W
24. Mr. Bagier

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what action he has taken on the study commissioned by his Department into the feasibility of converting the Woodhead tunnel rail route into a road.

Mrs. Chalker

My Department did not commission the study, although we contributed to the cost. This was to help make available better information on conversion of redundant railways generally, and not just the Woodhead route. We have studied the report with interest, and I hope others have too; but I have no plans for the conversion of any railway route into a road.
