HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 c2W
Mr. Frank Field

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs which voluntary organisations currently receiving grants from his Department will be receiving reductions in their grants.

Mr. Raison

The four member societies of the British Volunteer Programme (Voluntary Service Overseas, International Voluntary Service, Catholic Institute for International Relations and United Nations Association International Service) and the four largest recipients of funds under the "pound for pound" joint funding scheme (Oxfam, Save the Children Fund, Catholic Fund for Overseas Development and Christian Aid) also Scottish Education and Action for Development and the Centre for World Development Education, all of which receive grants on an agreed annual basis, will, subject to parliamentary approval, receive at least as much finance next year as this.

It is not possible to say at this stage what the position with respect to the other agencies will be. The funds they receive next year will depend on the progress of projects which we are helping to finance with them and, in the case of Christians Abroad, on their recruitment levels; on whether they make application for funds next year; and what the demands will be, through these agencies, for financial assistance either to help with refugees or to alleviate the effects of disasters.
