The reduction in the level of academic staff (part-time and full-time) between January 1980 and December 1983 was about 3,600, from a total of about 34,000. For non-academic staff information for January 1980 is not available. The total reduction between December 1980 and December 1983 was about 7,800 from a total of about 70,000.
