HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 cc10-1W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what are the numbers of hospital emergency admissions for persons suffering from throat blockages caused by marbles and the number of such admissions caused by the swallowing of scented erasers during the most recent four year period for which figures are available.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

National figures are not available. My Department's home accident surveillance system collects information from a sample of 20 hospitals in England and Wales and the figures reported for hospital admissions due to marbles and erasers in the mouth, throat or digestive system are:

1979 1980 1981 1982
Marbles 0 0 2 1
Erasers 0 0 0 0
