asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now consider seeking to restrict by proper licensing the activities of the minicab trade.

In areas in which the provisions of part II of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 have been adopted., the private hire car trade is subject to licensing controls by the district councils. We have at present no plans to amend that legislation. In addition, plying for hire other than by a licensed hackney carriage is an offence.
