Mr. Phillip Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received from the chairman of the National Coal Board regarding the extension of the coal-firing scheme.

Mr. Peter Walker

[pursuant to his reply, 22 December 1983, c. 405]: As from 1 April, I shall assume responsibility from the Department of Trade and Industry for the coal firing scheme and for provision of exchange risk cover on loans from the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) for coal-firing projects. Applications for assistance under both schemes should be sent to the coal firing unit, at the following address:
