§ Mr. Steenasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will authorise that a planning application be made by the Devon county council with regard to a gipsy site at Chelston meadow; and if he will call in the application.
§ Mr. MacfarlaneMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State has before him an objection, lodged by the Plymouth city council under section 8 of the Caravan Sites Act 1968, to Devon county council's proposal to locate a gipsy site at Chelson Meadow. Exchange of representations is taking place and when this is completed he will decide, in accordance with section 8, whether to direct the county council to abandon the proposal, to proceed with it, or to make an application for planning permission. Any such application would be deemed to be referred to the Secretary of State under section 35 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1971 for his decision.
