HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 cc47-8W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list his powers and responsibilities relating to the supervision of the banking system in Jersey and Guernsey.

Mr. Ian Stewart

The supervision of the banking system in Jersey and Guernsey is entirely the responsibility of the Channel Island authorities. As dependencies of the Crown, the Channel Islands have their own legislature, and courts of law, including their own banking legislation.

Mr. Dalyell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will take steps to bring into charge to United Kingdom tax, payments made to United Kingdom residents working outside the United Kingdom whose earnings are, wholly or partly, remitted to the Channel Islands.

Mr. Moore

I shall let the hon. Member have a reply as soon as possible.
