HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 c15W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many improvement or prohibition notices on preventing back injuries have been served on National Health Service premises since 1975; in which areas they were served; and what enforcement action he is taking on the Health and Safety Executive's recent report on the lifting of patients in health services.

Mr. Gummer

No improvement or prohibition notices specifically directed to the prevention of back injuries have been served on NHS premises. HSE inspectors who visit NHS premises will discuss the action being taken on the recommendations of the Health and Safety Commission's Health Services Advisory Committe in the publication "The Lifting of Patients in the Health Services".
