HC Deb 27 February 1984 vol 55 cc54-5W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of Stacie for Scotland if he will list the schools in the private sector in Scotland which by 1988 he currently estimates will have (a) over 20 per cent., (b) over 30 per cent. and (c) over 40 per cent. of its pupils paid for by the assisted places scheme.

Mr. Allan Stewart

Such estimates are not available centrally because the assisted places scheme in Scotland does not operate in terms of numbers of places allocated by my right hon. Friend. Cash allocations are made each year to participating schools and the number of places obtainable from these depends on several variable factors, including the income level of the families of pupils applying for assisted places and the schools' capacity to accommodate applicants.
