HC Deb 24 February 1984 vol 54 c646W
Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent representations he has received from the Spastics Society; what reply he is sending; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lawson

I have received representations from the Spastics Society in a letter from the director, Sir John Cox. My hon. Friend the Financial Secretary replied on my behalf on 9 February saying that we would give the society's views careful consideration. The society recommends an increase in tobacco duty in excess of revalorisation, which is not a matter I can comment on in advance of the Budget.
