HC Deb 24 February 1984 vol 54 c645W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the cost to the Exhequer in terms of tax forgone of the concession on life assurance in all the forms in which it is being used by financial intermediaries for investment purposes.

Mr. Moore

I assume this question refers to life assurance premium relief. The estimated total cost of this relief in 1983–84 will be around £700 million. We cannot estimate what proportion of these premiums relates to the cost of life cover.
