§ Mr. Austin Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what conclusions he has drawn from the study of multinational investment strategy recently published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office concerning the effect of European Economic Community membership on investment in manufacturing in the United Kingdom by foreign-owned multinationals since United Kingdom entry into the European Economic Community.
§ Mr. ChannonThe study conducted by Professor Hood and Mr. Young to which I take it reference is made was not specifically concerned with the effects of Community membership. Nevertheless, the data on trends in foreign direct investment presented in the study provide some indirect evidence that the impact of Community membership on such investment in the United Kingdom was positive.
