§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many motor cars he anticipates will be exported from the United Kingdom into Japan during 1984; and how many motor cars he expects to be imported into the United Kingdom from Japan.
§ Mr. ChannonIt is too early to judge either figure. But the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders expects its Japanese counterpart to continue to export prudently during 1984 and the Government and the European Commission will continue to press the Japanese further to open their domestic market to imports.
§ Mr. Gouldasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the reason for the increase in export unit values and for the drop in import unit values since the spring of 1983 in the case of passenger motor cars.
§ Mr. ChannonThere are numerous influences on short-term movement in unit values. It is not generally possible to allocate specific causes.
