§ Sir Geoffrey HoweWe want to see the earliest possible end to this dangerous and destructive war. We have urged both sides to comply with Security Council resolution 540 and to co-operate with the Secretary-General in the search for a negotiated settlement.

Mr. Gareth Wardellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement on recent initiatives taken by Her Majesty's Government to raise at the United Nations Organisation the failure of Iran and Iraq to respect Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gulf war.
