§ 28. Mr. Maddenasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will arrange for all interviews conducted by entry clearance officers to be tape-recorded.
§ Mr. WhitneyNo. The Home Affairs Committee on Immigration from the Sub-continent recommended that the Foreign and Commonwealth Office should conduct a further experiment into the tape recording of entry clearance interviews. This recommendation was accepted and interviews were recorded in Dhaka and New Delhi during 1983. The appellate authorities found the results to be far from satisfactory. Their view was that the disadvantages far outweighed the possible advantages.
