HC Deb 22 February 1984 vol 54 c523W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what annual savings will result from the proposed abolition of the Greater London council as an institution as opposed to any savings that may arise from subsequent policy changes by successor bodies in the level of services provided;

(2) if he will now estimate the costs of change and how they will be met in the event of the Greater London council being abolished.

Mr. Waldegrave

It is not possible to give detailed estimates of savings or transitional costs at this stage. Much will depend on decisions to be made by the London borough councils.
