HC Deb 22 February 1984 vol 54 c561W
49. Mr. Alton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will raise with the Commonwealth Heads of State the security problems of small Commonwealth states.

Mr. Whitney

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister informed the House on 1 December 1983, Commonwealth Heads of Government discussed the security of small states at their meeting in New Delhi last November and requested the Secretary-General to undertake an urgent study into the matter. We greatly welcome this step and will continue to exchange views with our Commonwealth partners on ways in which the security of these states might be increased.
