HC Deb 22 February 1984 vol 54 c563W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs (1) what are the objectives of Her Majesty's Government's policy in their dealings with the Caribbean Economic Community;

(2) what are the objectives of Her Majesty's Government's policy in their dealings with the Organisation of East Caribbean States.

Mr. Whitney

The Caribbean Economic Community — CARICOM — and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States—OECS—have as their primary aim the promotion of co-operation at all levels among their member states. We recognise the importance of regional co-operation and the weight which is rightly given to this by the countries of the area. We continue to pursue policies, including the stimulation of trade and provision of aid, where appropriate, with the objective of assisting these countries to achieve their aims.
