§ Mr. Andrew Stewartasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if, in collaboration with the United Kingdom's Community partners, he will impose unilateral restraints on disruptive Turkish exports of textile and clothing products, particularly for multi-fibre arrangement categories 4 (T-shirts), 13 (knickers) and 83 (other knitted outerwear) in the absence of the Turkish Government being willing to enter immediately into a voluntary restraint arrangement.
§ Mr. ChannonI hope that progress will soon be made towards the establishment of a comprehensive voluntary restraint arrangement. Nevertheless, we are carefully monitoring the level of imports from Turkey so that, if there is a surge which threatens damage to our industry, we can immediately request the Commission to take safeguard action.
