asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average length of waiting time for orthopaedic surgery in England; and what are the figures for the east and west Leeds area health authority.

The estimated median waiting time of persons admitted from the waiting list (that is, excluding emergency admissions and other admissions with a known date when the decision to admit was made) is given in the table for 1981, the latest year for which information is available centrally.
