HC Deb 21 February 1984 vol 54 c504W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if, in view of the improved prognosis for the treatment of end stage renal failure, he will take steps to provide facilities for 45 to 50 new end stage renal failure cases per million; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

I refer the hon. Gentleman to my right hon. Friend's reply of 5 December 1983 at column22, and my reply of 26 January 1984, at column 706.

Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will give the treatment rate per million for new end stage renal failure patients by home dialysis, hospital dialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and transplant for Wales and for each district health authority; what is the estimated length of life for end stage renal failure patients who receive none of the above treatment; if he will give the estimated number of deaths from end stage renal failure in each of the above authorities which could have been avoided if such treatment had been provided; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Figures from the European Dialysis and Transplant Association show that during 1982, the latest date for which information is available, 28 new patients per million population were taken on in Wales for treatment. No breakdown for type of treatment for these patients is available. The estimates requested by the hon. Gentleman are not available.
