HC Deb 21 February 1984 vol 54 c475W
Mr. Soames

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what are the objectives of Her Majesty's Government's policy in their dealings with the Gulf Co-operation Council.

Mr. Luce

We have had informal contacts with the Gulf Co-operation Council, but substantial dealings continue to be with the individual member states rather than with the organisation as such. We have close and friendly relations with all these states and we have therefore warmly welcomed the formation and development of the Gulf Co-operation Council. We believe that it can make an important contribution to the peace, stability and prosperity of the Gulf.
