HC Deb 21 February 1984 vol 54 c456W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister what response she has made to Argentine proposals on the Falkland Islands, in relation to action by the United Nations.

The Prime Minister

As I said in the House on 2 February, we believe that it is in the interests of this country, the people of Argentina and the people of the Falklands that we should establish better relations with Argentina. My right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs said on 25 January the right way to do this is through the protecting powers. We accordingly put some specific ideas to the Argentine Government through the Swiss protecting power on 26 January.

We have now received a reply which we are studying. We are keeping the Secretary-General of the United Nations generally informed of developments.
