Mr. Canavan

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will arrange to meet trade union representatives of the Civil Service to discuss the rights of civil servants to belong to a trade union.

As the hon. Member will be aware, my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister said on 1 February 1984 that, if representatives of the Civil Service unions wished to meet her again, she would be prepared to do so, and the unions accepted her offer.
