§ Mr. YoungerI intend to lay before the House shortly an order under section 289D of the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1975 increasing the value of the sums specified in that section to take account of changes in the value of money since they were last fixed. The order will double the maximum fines which may be imposed on summary conviction of a wide range of offences created by statute, and will relate to offences committed after 1 May 1984.
