HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 cc363-4W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what consultations he has initiated or been involved in concerning the ownership, following abolition of the Greater London council, of smallholdings and farms situated within the London borough of Hillingdon; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Fenner

The White Paper "Streamlining the Cities" (Cmnd. 9063) proposed that responsibility for the administration of those statutory smallholdings estates currently managed by the Greater London council and the Metropolitan county councils should be transferred to the appropriate shire county councils. We have therefore consulted those county councils affected by this proposal, including Buckinghamshire county council in relation to the one statutory smallholding estate situated in the London borough of Hillingdon. The question of ownership of smallholdings or farm land other than statutory smallholdings is one for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment.
