HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 c368W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) whether the terms of reference of the public inquiry concerning proposed increases of toll charges at the Severn bridge will permit the inspector to consider views expressed by objectors about changes in Government policy in regard to toll charges at this bridge and at other estuarial tunnels and bridges;

(2) whether the terms of reference of the public inquiry concerning proposed increases of toll charges at the Severn bridge will permit the inspector to consider views expressed by objectors about the provision of an additional bridge or tunnel across the Severn estuary.

Mr. Ridley

The inquiry will be held under the provisions of the Severn Bridge Tolls Act 1965. There will be no formal terms of reference and the independent Inspector will be able to consider any evidence which he regards as relevant to the proposal to increase the toll charges.
