asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many collieries have been closed since January 1983.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I understand from the National Coal Board that since January 1983, 15 pits have been closed.

22. Mrs. Currie

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many coal mines were closed in each of the periods 1964 to 1970, 1970 to 1974, 1974 to 1979 and 1979 to 1983, respectively.
