Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, pursuant to his reply to the right hon. Member for Manchester, Wythenshawe, on 19 January, Official Report, c. 317, what would be the increased income to the national insurance fund (a) from the abolition of the married women's option and (b) from increasing the contribution rates of opted-out married women and widows by 2.75 per cent. to 6.6 per cent. of earnings.

The increases in the first full year would be as follows:

  1. (a) £355 million.
  2. (b) £215 million.
