HC Deb 20 February 1984 vol 54 c376W
Mr. Tony Banks

asked the Prime Minister what plans she has to reduce the cost of the National Health Service.

The Prime Minister

The Government's plans for NHS development between 1984–85 and 1986–87 are described in the public expenditure White Paper presented to Parliament on 16 February (Cmnd 9143). They include increases in expenditure for Great Britain of over £800 million a year, implying real growth for each of the next three years; and a major programme of measures to control costs and increases efficiency and hence improve patient services and the value obtained from rising expenditure.
